Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will play a pivotal role in building the finance team, strengthening systems, and guiding the firm through its next five to ten years of significant expansion. This is an on-site executive role requiring a leader who can combine strategic vision with operational execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership – Develop and lead long-term financial planning, continuously refining forecasts (short-term through 24 months) to anticipate capital needs and support aggressive growth objectives.
  • Investment & M&A Support – Build financial models, perform risk analyses, and lead due diligence for acquisitions, ensuring seamless post-acquisition integration and performance tracking.
  • Financial Reporting & Controls – Oversee monthly closings, audits, and board-ready financial statements; ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Performance Management – Establish and track financial KPIs across departments; design dashboards to improve transparency, accountability, and decision-making.
  • Cash Flow & Capital Management – Maintain visibility on daily cash positions, optimize working capital, and manage debt structures, credit facilities, and capital allocation.
  • Relationship Management – Build strong partnerships with banks, lenders, consultants, insurers, benefit providers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Team Building & Development – Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance team (Controller, FP&A, and accounting staff) to support growth and scale.
  • Systems & Process Optimization – Enhance and optimize newly implemented ERP and financial tools to enhance automation, consistency, and reporting across the business.
  • Strategic Partnership – Act as a trusted advisor and sounding board to the CEO, shaping strategy, providing insights, and modeling operational excellence.
  • Legal & Compliance Support – Partner with legal, operations, and management teams on bonding, contracts, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (advanced degree or MBA preferred).
  • CPA or other advanced financial credentials strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including at least 5 years in the construction industry.
  • Strong expertise in GAAP, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Proven experience building and leading high-performing finance and accounting teams.
  • Strong systems and process improvement orientation, with hands-on ERP optimization experience.
  • M&A expertise including financial modeling, due diligence, integration, and synergy realization.
  • Prior leadership experience in a scaling middle-market company

The Ideal Candidate
This role is suited for a hands-on financial executive with the vision and drive to scale a construction services company toward $200M in annual revenue. The CFO will be both a strategic thinker and an operator, capable of leading through complexity, building infrastructure, and fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, and growth.
